At the Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavik, the Icelandic national final was held tonight. Two semi finals have already been aired last weekend. Eyþór Ingi Gunnlaugsson has won Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2013 with the song “Ég á líf”.

The song beat off competition from 6 other songs and won over Unnur Eggertsdóttir and her song “Ég syng!”.

This years selection saw two former Eurovision entrants Yohanna and Birgitta Haukdal take part; Yohanna was knocked out in the semi finals and Birgitta in the final.
It is not known at this stage whether or not “Ég á líf” will stay in Icelandic or if it will be translated into English for the contest in May.

Iceland is yet to win the Eurovision Song Contest even if the country debuted in 1986. Their best result to date is the 2nd place secured by Selma in 1999 and by Yohanna in 2009.
